U.S. Iran relations overview: The United States and Iran established official relations in 1856 with the signing of a treaty of friendship and commerce. Over the following decades, relations were largely cooperative, focusing on trade, education, and cultural exchange. During the reign of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, and Nixon administration Iran became a close U.S. ally, receiving political, military, and economic support. The 1979 Islamic Revolution fundamentally altered this relationship, culminating in the U.S. Embassy Hostage crisis and cutting of diplomatic ties by the Carter administration in 1980. Since then, the two counties have had a tense relationship with ongoing political and security disagreements. Prior to 1979 Iran revolution, Iran and American relationship was the strongest in the world. During the cold war Iran was protecting American interest in the North with the Soviet- Union, in the Middle East with Saddam Husein, and a ragtag Communist gang with the blood of brave Iranian Soldiers. During 1970s the OPEC Oil Embargo marked a long-term economic hardship for the Americans since the first time, energy prices skyrocketed, and American factories faced serious competition from foreign automobiles, clothing, electronics and consumer goods. By the late 1970, the American economy suffered an energy crisis, slowed the economic growth, high unemployment, American economy suffered high inflation coupled with the high interest rates. This was the period Iran came to the rescue of United States economy, Europe and yes Israel too. Great many Israeli contractors were working in the agriculture section in Iran. Iran did increase the oil production, kept oil prices low, was the only country in the world selling oil to the state of Israel which even U.S. did not, after all, the reason for the embargo was the lack of friendly relationship between Arab countries in the Middle East for the support of Israel. In the economic section, Iran initiated a $20,000,000,000 economic portfolio for the American manufacturing selling exclusively American products to Iran, by opening an office in the Commers Department in the Washington D.C.
Increase demand in electricity electrification of rural area project Nuclear Energy. In 1974 Iran signed contract with the Westinghouse Corp. in U.S. to build 8 Nuclear Energy Reactor. Following year Iranian students were sent to the Education section of Iranian Embassy in Washington D.C. which I was stationed to be send to American Universities all over the U.S. such as MIT, which we had the greatest number of students, 22, university of Maryland, Texas, California, and many more universities in U.S. Iran did not seek Nuclear Weapon technology only Nuclear Energy.
United States decision to destroy 3 Irans defensive nuclear facilities sites on behave of Israel on June 2025 in Iran were wrong, unlawful, because Iran been member of IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency since 1958 one year after the agency was founded and it remains a member and has been following their guidelines since became a member without violating of their guidelines.
